Can Pieces of a Candle Help Her Shine? |

Little Unsa keeps the pieces of a candle like golden jewellery under her pillow which she uses for studying late at night; as there is neither electricity nor gas in her dark dingy single rented room they live in. Having insatiable desires and yearnings for education, Unsa is a grade four student in READ Foundation School Gojar Bandi. She longs for education more than any comfort or the toys which a girl of her age can ask for. Her mother is a sweeper who is unable to afford Unsa’s educational expenses.

Anwar is 5th grade student in one of the READ Foundation Schools Muzaffrabad. After moving through topsy-turvy and highly dangerous roads it takes you two hours to reach Khorian, where he lives.
Anwar is one of those brilliant orphans who value his time and the interests his mentors are putting in his academic excellence. One of his teachers comments “the people of this area are very well aware of the importance of education but they are helpless when it comes to sending their children to school as they don’t have means to.” He adds “What sponsors have done for these underprivileged children is remarkable because such support from these people can turn orphans’ life around.”
